The Certified Medical Dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team who has developed expertise and knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment, is cognizant of procedures commonly used in brachytherapy and has the education and expertise necessary to generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations in collaboration with the medical physicist and radiation oncologist.
Assist in CT simulation setup and immobilization techniques and has full GE CT and AW workstation knowledge. Participates in ensuring reproducible patient immobilization techniques in the treatment room for complex or special case setups. Participates in system physics QA meetings Assist in problem solving of manufacturing of Cerro bend blocks. Responsible for assisting the physicist in maintaining and inventorying all radiation safety documents, records and equipment for Radiation Oncology required by the various regulatory agencies. Available for guidance in the event of a radiation disaster or emergency. Assists physicist with performance of the monthly spot checks, quality control and annual calibration of the simulator. Performs and checks various manual dosimetric calculations for the patients with interruptions in radiation therapy. Assist in QA for treatment planning system Responsible for generating Intensity Modulated Treatment Plans (IMRT).Must pass and keep current the national certification boards for medical dosimetry. Be able to communicate effectively with physicians, physicists, dosimetrists, management and other department staff. Promotes and maintains physician and administrative partnerships, managing change effectively and establishing collaborative working relationships with all levels of staff.
Minimum education requirement is an Associates or Bachelor of Science degree
Certified by the American Association of Medical Dosimetry (AAMD) as a Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) required.
Minimum of Three to Five years of dosimetry experience preferred
