Anesthesia technicians support anesthesiologists, anesthesiologist assistants, nurses and other members of anesthesia care teams. Their main duty is maintaining anesthesia equipment as well as facilitating room set up and supply management.
Job duties include assisting the department of anesthesia in cleaning, sterilizing, testing, calibrating and troubleshooting anesthesia equipment, as well as keeping records of equipment inspections. More advanced duties might include transporting patients to surgery, explaining procedures to patients and operating equipment, such as electronic and pneumatic devices, that monitors patients who are under anesthesia. Assisting the department of anesthesia with the ordering, stocking and inventory of supplies and equipment used to deliver care as well as facilitating OR room set up.
Anesthesia technician certificate at the associate or bachelor's level
1-3 years Operating Room experience preferred
BLS/CPR certifications required
